You’re so wise, they say. How do you know so much? And you don’t want to tell them You don’t want to remember every broken bone and broken promise and broken heart Wisdom is learned from experience And you have had too much You have seen too much You know far too much Lessons learned in fire and lightning, in poison and acid Lessons paid in blood and in sanity You have learned more than you ever wanted to know More than anyone should know You would give anything to forget But you have learned that you cannot forget And so instead you teach With every lesson you pass on You hope that you can change someone’s story Change someone’s ending But mostly You hope that they will never need it You’re so strong, they say. How did you survive so much? And you tell them the truth You had no choice.
