The Penalty of Love

The penalty of love is a crippling immeasurable drought of life,
Fire burns and sparks every simple gesture,
Weighted gas imprisons your lungs from breath,
and smoggy oceans suffocate your eyes.
Your heart is instantaneously flooded and hollow,
the magic you once held becomes dust between your fingers.
This love that felt as if it was an overwhelming spiral of tantalising hopeful desires
Morphs into a sinking pit so foreign and gaping
you feel as though it’s lost to eternity.
Mingled between the stars you once knew as your smile-
now a stranger.
You claw so desperately for what it was-
every tick of the clock a second in heaven,
encompassed by fluffy cotton candy clouds
and beaming white sunshine.
Yet, the weather around you chose to change without mercy,
Even when you prayed it wouldn’t.
Choosing a darker path of isolating disaster,
Mutating into raging seas of hostility and desserts made of gunpowder
Torturing every inch of your helpless mind.
Leaving simple tasks a hassle,
Extinguishing your will,
Stripping you down from your toes to the top of your head-
Stealing, foraging, taking all that you've created
until the remains of what you own, are bone and dust.
The penalty of love a death sentence-
Where life remains as an infinite trudge
Through limbo of the body and damnation of the subconscious.
A crushingly wicked sentence of the innocent.
Edifying
the true cost of human happiness.
